The scenarios: Corporate carbon footprint: A beverage company with offices in the U.S., Mexico, and Spain is interested in taking measures to reduce its carbon footprint.
Environmental Issues relates to the scenarios
The Clean Air Act
What does it do?
The act aims to regulate the dangerous emission of different types of pollutants that may endanger the general health and welfare of the public. In particular, the legislation has contributed towards cutting ground-level ozone emission of dangerous components by 25% and mercury emissions by 45%. Additionally, the act emphasizes the reduction of main pollutants contributing to acid rainfall (Schmalensee and Robert 4). Some of the pollutants include sulfur dioxide (by approximately 71%) and nitrogen dioxide (by about 46%). According to different provisions under this act, corporate entities should phase out the production and use of chemicals contributing to the dangerous ozone gases. Moreover, companies should reduce lead content in products such as gasoline to reduce air pollution by over 90%. Undeniably, the introduction of the Clean Air Act encouraged companies to introduce and adopt important solutions to support the reduction of pollution.
Is it municipal, state, regional, federal, international?
The Clean Air Act is a federal legislation on the regulation of corporate carbon footprint. The federal law aim to control air pollution from companies on a national level.
How is it implemented and who implements it?
The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is responsible for the regulation and the implementation of the Clean Air Act (Schmalensee and Robert 4). In the execution of the Clean Air Act, the EPA hopes to reduce global warming pollutions from Automotives and large industrial players.
How do those laws affect to the environment issues?
The Clean Air Act can ensure the progressive provision of necessary environment to support the survival of the natural ecosystem.
The Independence and Security Act of 2007 (Clean Energy Act)
What does it do?
The primary aim of the Act was to move the country towards enhanced energy independence. The act improved consumer protection of quality environment by encouraging the production of clean and renewable energy. Subsequently, the act directed companies to ensure increased efficiency in their products, buildings, and automobiles (The EPA 1). Such efficiencies would enhance research and development on the elimination of greenhouse gases. The EISA implements most of the energy reduction objectives through different federal agencies. The Act emphasizes on increasing fuel economy standards among corporate players. Additionally, the renewable fuel standard stipulated under subsequent provision is progressively improving the country’s bio fuels infrastructure. Lastly, the Independence and Security Act of 2007 encourages the development of appropriate systems to capture and sequestrate carbon pollutants emanating from companies and buildings.
Is it municipal, state, regional, federal, international?
The Clean Energy Act of 2007 is a unique act of the U.S Congress aimed to introduce relevant policies on carbon footprints. The Federal Government Act aims to improve energy performances in various agencies.
How is it implemented and who implements it?
The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is responsible for the regulation and the accomplishment of the Clean Energy Act. In the implementation of the EISA, the EPA hopes to reduce corporate carbon in the United States (The EPA 1). In particular, the EPA is committed towards the development, implementation, and analysis of related provisions.
How do those laws affect to the environment issues?
The Act introduced laws to expand the production of renewable sources of energy in American societies. The Act reduced America’s reliance on fossil fuels and enhanced the country’s energy security. Additionally, the Act introduced mandatory standards on the reduction of carbon emissions (The EPA 1). Companies dealing with renewable and clean sources of energy such as nuclear plants received incentives from the federal government. In essence, the Clean Energy Act resulted in healthier ecosystems and increased development of alternative energy sources.
