Association of Ideas

The article is about human motor habits of conduct that are controlled and directly influenced by our consciousness. It describes the flow of a stream of objects, feelings, and impulsive tendencies that run in our minds. Upon considering the article, the conscious has pulses that contain different points of attention. As a result, our thoughts are always centered on the shape of the main object and those objects that lie on the margin of the main object of attention.

The pulses once passed through the human mind; they are expressed by usage of two laws of association so that the mind can join the different pulses into one form and identify the stimulus behind them in order to act accordingly. The first law of association is that of contiguity, which talks about objects in the coming wave that will have a closer similarity with those in the previous wave that help us to suggest terms in our mind. As per this law, people are able to remember what they learn at school because every new topic they are introduced to has a closer relationship with the previous topic. The law of similarity is the second law of association where we have the principle that some parts of a stimulus field are similar to each other and that we perceive them as a unit, and we can understand the stimulus at hand.

From the article, the two laws are not related because the phenomena of association are controlled by our cerebral constitution and that it does not bring out immediate consequences to us because we are rational beings. From the above arguments, I strongly agree that we depend on the two laws of association to escape or face stimuli that we are exposed to and make appropriate choices depending on the stimulus at hand. In addition, the psychologist argument that the use of appreciation is useful to teachers when teaching because it majorly deals with the act of taking something into the mind that requires the immediate association of the ideas taught and how they the pupils need to be taught in order for them to dispense easily what they have been taught.
