Internet and media channels are vibrant in nature. Internet involves the use of technological devices to access data capital transmitted from end to end through wireless platforms. This means that a person can access programs, records and additional materials on his/her laptop provided he/she is linked to the World Wide Web. Multimedia incorporates social media platforms that allow individuals to share ideas as well as communicate with each other. The interaction amid senders and recipient is characterized by the correlation involving the two users. This relationship changes depending on the content shared. In addition, content circulated may be the source of conflict or friendship amongst the community. A set of personal values and guidelines must be followed when posting or updating posts on these platforms.


Multimedia holds a variety of meanings. The definition that one assigns to the term is influenced by personal views and perspectives. From a computing point of view, multimedia means that information on a computer can be represented by audio, video, and animation in addition to traditional media. The diverse conduct of traditional media includes drawings, wording, images or graphics. A more general definition of the term is that multimedia is the field concerned with the computer controlled integration of text, pictures, graphics, video, still images audio and other media where different types of information can be represented, processed, stored, and transmitted digitally. A multimedia appliance is an acquiescence that utilizes a compilation of a mixture of media sources. The sources include text, graphics images, videos and audios (Ducey, n.d.).

Internet denotes to the universal structure of information coupled collectively by a logical distinctive address code based on an Internet Protocol or its successive follow-ons. The internet could also mean a worldwide net that can support chatting through the Transmission Protocol and its subsequent extensions. The global system offers high-level services that are prearranged on the interactions and related infrastructure within the global system. The traditional core application on the internet included the emails, new, remote login access and file transfer. The boom came in place when the World Wide Web came into existence. From the WWW, came a plethora of new applications that have enhanced the utility of the internet. The new applications include video conferencing, telephony, Peer-To-Peer applications and the internet broadcast services (Zittrain, 2008).

Information expertise is the discipline and action of keeping and distributing out information through the use of computers. People tend to confuse the meaning of the term by assuming that it refers to informatics or the software and hardware that link up the internet. The term is best understood when one replaces the word “information” with the term “data.” The definition takes a different line when we use the term data. The various components that make up the computer bring about another term, “digitalization”. Therefore, a complete definition of the word would be the use of digital sources to move data. Moving numbers would include the preservation of data. Digital forms of data storage reveal distinct characteristics that the data holds (Vaughan, 2011).

The various mediums defined above lay the basis for the development of the Internet and the online world that we know today. The internet has transformed into a playground of sorts for various projects from all fields. The internet hold portfolios for artists, the internet provides new forms of entertainment and news information channels. In fact, the internet helps in research; it provides the data and information that people need at the push of a button or the tap of a screen. Despite the current varied uses, the current internet infrastructure is not able to support development and innovation of independent functionalities, protocol and services while sustaining the demands for the ever-changing applications.

The Current States of the Internet and Multimedia


The world incorporates the use of multimedia services in the daily activities that it engages. Through the internet, the exploitation of multimedia gargets grows and the utility exceeded the intended purposes. The use of audio technology transcends the borders that early users had developed around it. The various multimedia services have helped numerous people realize their goals in ways that were not possible some years back. Audio technology has enabled the musician save time on recording and publishing their music. The devices also save on costs (Sharif, 2012). The application of the multimedia on the social platforms allows the user to download high-quality music. Moreover, with the advent of the web of things, people can incorporate different multimedia devices such as graphics and sounds with the traditional forms such as text.

The growing literacy in the use and adaptation of multimedia devices has allowed people to integrate them in various settings. Businesses have adopted the different media services in the operations. Business aspects that rarely used the internet or multimedia services now realize the need for the same. The management job in companies recognizes that they need to be to the lead of rivalry. Therefore, they adopt the best means of multimedia devices to aid in creating a competitive edge over their competitors. Recent times have seen various companies splurge huge amounts in developing cutting edge multimedia devices that allow the employees represent data as well as improving communication through teleconferencing.

People use multimedia devices in homes. Music is an important part of people’s lives and the development of hardware that supports multimedia functionalities enables the general population to adopt the changes. Various researchers have argued that the selling point for computers, both personal and public, is the inclusion of multimedia facilities (Martínez, 2012). People have taken the services and used them for various means such as video recording, sending messages, graphics and data. Personal laptop and know-how scene has seen moves towards the integration of the mobile phone, the TV, the radio and the website. The smart phone currently serves as a radio, and the various development in connectivity technology have allowed the phone to step a notch higher in substituting the television.

The current state of the multimedia facilities indicates that growth is not a remote possibility. The gargets have originated ways in unsuspecting fields such as business. However, the principal use is in the homes and houses. The services have allowed people to communicate, educate and learn. Multimedia facilities are on a growth trajectory, and the development of further supportive structures provides varied paths that the development could take.

The Internet

The internet is on a growth arc that is second to none. Universities have opened their doors to new ways of learning and teaching through the internet, businesses have developed and cultivated international relationships through the use of the internet. Moreover, public encompass interactions with family members in different parts of the world. The internet is leading the way in globalization. Research is pushing the limits on the speeds that people access the internet. Developed countries lead the pack in the adaptation of the web to various uses.

            Globally, almost all countries and different regions witnessed the growth of the internet. The mobile phone is the main reason for the upsurge. Different countries such as South Korea lead in the fastest speeds for internet connection. Developing countries in Africa witnessed substantial growth in the use of the web. However, the speeds are slower compared to developed countries. The slow speeds limit the large-scale adaptation of the internet to mainstream areas such as university education (Martínez, 2012).

Studies indicate that the global rates for the web have exceeded 25 Mbps, which was the standard in some developed countries. Very few countries have low speeds of 1.0 Mbps. The countries are Libya and Yemen. The internet speeds increased by 14% year over year. The data provided indicates a growing internet penetration in most countries of the world. The demand for data has outgrown the need for voice services. The reason is the use of the smart phone for primary uses of the internet such as research for data or leisure reading. Many people use the internet to get information and to interact with their loved ones. Currently, there is a demand for more connectivity and higher speeds.

The various companies such as Google and Microsoft have launched new operating services which aim at integrating the core functions of the smart phone to the internet. The demand for high speeds and reliable devices has pushed the growth of custom ways to access the internet. New methods and means to facilitate the change allow for the higher rates in developed countries.


Multimedia platforms such as face book, tweeter, whatsApp, mainstream media and Skype accelerate speculation amongst the community. This is because information spread or goes viral within a very short time. People react and air out their view in regards to different occasion and events that are taking place in the world today. This has seen the emergence of violence in different parts of the world caused by irresponsible posting endeavor. Heading to the future, social media especially the mainstream media will not only instigate violence but also brings about insecurity. Criminals are able to access information from these sources hence able to advance their ill will. This poses a threat to the country’s security. An example includes two countries that are at war. The mainstream media and bloggers who engage in intensive and timely update of data concerned with the progress of the war. Enemies on the other side will be following up the posting to establish the time and place to attack. Thus, the media would negatively affect a country’s security strategies. However, there are advantages attributed to social media especially the broadcasting activities. They help uncover the evils that take place in the community. Therefore, the authority in charge takes corrective measures to solve some of these cases such as rape cases which often go unreported. It is not yet clear what the future presents to the world in terms of mainstream revolution and activities hitherto.


The internet provides the synergy between broadcasting and internet-based services. Multimedia today provides for the sending of data through linear audio and video programming in real time. The basic model for broadcasting services has been constant for the past 80 years. We switch on our radios or televisions to gain access to a certain program at a certain time. Other than the ability to control the frequency and whether the receiver is on or off, we have limited choices on what is offered on our screens and through the radios (Ducey, n.d.).

Multimedia broadcasting is the future of communication. Studies indicate that multimedia broadcasting will develop in three ways. The first phase will include today’s analog systems such as the televisions which support all components of multimedia. Manufacturers have stretched the limits of the new generations of televisions that now support the internet. The second phase will involve the transmission of unrelated data to the main channel. The system will enable other data to be transmitted as well without interrupting the ongoing transmission. The third development will be the creation of applications that will interact with non-broadcast applications. Convergence technology will allow the three phases to develop to maturity. The convergence includes the collision of computers, telecommunications and the media markets. The evidence of the developments can be seen in the various mergers and acquisitions in the business scene. The convergent technology has four characteristics; the systems will be open, the inclusion of layered architectures, digital signal processing and platform independence. Each component will play a major part in the development of the new form of broadcasting (Ducey, n.d.).

The layered architecture supports the connectivity of the integrated systems. This creates the binding factors that link up the infrastructure which ranges from the mobile phones, televisions, computers, set top boxes, modems, games, applications, etc. The underlying factor for layered architecture is that each layer can occur independently about the other layers (Ducey, n.d.).

The Internet

The internet has provided information to various people. Google’s company mission is to organize all the information in the world so that it can be used more efficiently. The internet provides the platforms for various applications that have helped bring the world together. Facebook and other social media sites use the web frameworks to enable a smooth running of the applications.

The internet of things is not a new idea. The idea is that devices, pets, even cars can be operated and tracked on the web. The technology has taken root with Google mapping out the whole world through their satellite vehicles. The information is developed to the maps. The company has developed the maps to produce 3D images of an individual’s location. The internet of things will enable an individual to monitor their house while they are at work through video cameras connected via the internet (Bristol University).

Another application of the internet of things will be the ability to track things. The process will involve attaching a tracking device to the items that often get misplaced such as keys or pets. The tracking device will allow the user to track the item via the internet. The tracking devices could send a message or notification to the owner when it falls outside a given range.

The internet of things could allow for virtual reality projects. The idea is that all physical items on the planet would have a virtual duplicate. The technology would enable us to track weather changes. The virtual world would develop a better understanding of our world.

The future of internet is unknown because of the nature of inventions taking place in the world. This is because some inventions have led to the discovery of new ways of doing things. Currently, internet is utilized in farming to regulate water and temperatures. Technological systems installed in farms helps owners make decisions in regards to farming, harvesting and tilling the land. This led to accuracy in the estimation for the harvesting season. For green house farmers, soil study and drip irrigation activities are carried out by using the system. This saves time and money for the operators. Moreover, sharing of ideas amongst farmers is possible through the use of these platforms. Guidance and advice is also offered through the system. Therefore, the future of internet in the farming business is deemed to bring in revolution to the activities conducted in this field.  Farming will therefore become an easy job to engage in. Moreover, the production levels will go high as well as the efficiency in the utilization of input materials.


The internet and multimedia are poised for significant changes. Various studies indicate different trajectories that the two technologies could take. The main ideas involve the integration of the two systems to provide a balanced system that will allow the user access different information at the same time. The development aims at making work easier for the everyday user. When all the factors converge at a central point, the internet and other traditional forms of media will enable the home user to gain access to new information that seems impossible now. The current state of technology fails to support the development of individual systems and applications. Future studies indicate the use of layered architecture that will allow people access different broadcast information at the same time.
