The eight components of a safety management system are explained below;
Management Leadership and organizational commitment
Firstly, the commitment of management is fundamental in developing and maintaining effective working environment. Managers can show their commitment by ensuring that identified hazards are controlled, sensitizing workers on health and safety, and adhering to safety rules of the company.
The second element is identification of hazards and evaluation. This entails every department identifying hazards related with activities it carries out. Pilots in the University of Flight Operations can implement this element by identifying risks related with flight operations.
The third element is hazard control. When possible, there is a need to reduce hazards, but if it is not possible, they must be controlled. For instance, physically ensuring that a worker does not come in contact with the hazard.
