Importance of Research Process in Practice of Nursing

Research process refers to a systematic process that is used to develop evidence. Evidence based practice (EBP) refers to a gathering, interpretation, and integration of significant, effective, and applicable information from a report provided by a healthcare worker and the researched evidence (Nursingworld.org, 2014). It can also be used to describe the incorporation of medical expertise with evidence collected from efficient research. Research process also involves activities done by the researcher to satisfy the research question. It comprises four major components: identifying the research question, collecting of data, data analysis, and finally dissemination of the findings.

I use the knowledge acquired from the research process to come up with evidence-based practice that incorporates research evidence, clinical expertise, and interpreting the needs of patients and viewpoints into the decision making process with respect to care. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) indicate that the staff is supposed to be accountable for its own practice and ensure that it has up to date information to assist in ensuring a safe and efficient practice delivery. Knowledge acquired from the research process enables me to see to it that patients are provided with the best available treatment and care.

The nursing practice will evolve if the knowledge learned from the research process is well communicated (Stevens, 2013). I also use the acquired knowledge to improve the performance of the staff’s duties as far as taking care and treating of patients are concerned. The models used in carrying out the research process serve as a basis for understanding evidence-based nursing practice. The research process is significant in the nursing practice because I use it to address challenges that I face in the nursing profession. The acquired knowledge allows me to integrate evidence and guidelines that are closely related to providing patient care. It is also significant in implementing more effective time management strategies, and I use the acquired knowledge to encourage patients to adhere to health care advice.

The research process is also important to me in my continued nursing practice because it enables me to address healthcare and societal issues. It has assisted me to see to it that my patients live a healthy life. This is done through addressing the negative impacts of various treatments and illness (Aacn.nche.edu, 2014). It has also been of great significant in handling behavioral and social aspects of social life hence improving the patient’s quality of life. Through research process, I now understand the interrelationship among psychological, behavioral, sociological, and biological factors. For instance, present research indicate that biological factors like brain plasticity, and genetic background have an impact on behavioral factors and behavioral interventions like exercise and diet have an impact on biological factors like the functioning of cells.

Furthermore, the research process has enabled me to make informed decisions because every stage of the nursing process is explained through research. It has also assisted other nurses and I to implement activities that promote the proper behavior of the client (Stevens, 2013). It has also enabled me to be accountable to my clients, and I do this by incorporating the knowledge that I acquired from the research process in making clinical decisions.

In conclusion, the research process is very significant in nursing practice because it helps nurses to use the knowledge acquired in the field in making clinical decisions, improving health care, and providing proper treatment to the patients.
