Technological advancements have grown beyond the expectations of humans. The truth is that the society is at the top of technological progress and thus, attention is greatly shifted from a technological advancement to the other. In almost every aspect of human life, technology use in one way takes the lead (Pylyshyn, Zenon and Liam 119). Different societies convincingly embrace the need and the impact of computers in daily operations. This essay Education by Computer – A Better Way will elaborate how computers and technology in general have enhanced the education process.
In totality, use of computer related devices and computers enable humans to perform fast, efficiently and completely. The assumption is that if; the devices can be used in complex industries to enhance production processes, why not use them to enhance learning processes.
The possibility of such assumptions is that they may become a reality if learners embrace and accept change in their environment as well as the processes involved. The purpose of this research study is to clearly examine the possibilities in the disadvantages and advantages of computer aided education and the response of learners at the end of every learning session (Pylyshyn, Zenon and Liam 123).
The analysis of response from learners would also give guidelines on the path taken by policy makers, either to provide full time computer lessons or settle for interactive sessions between instructors and learners. From the proceeding, is education by computer the better option?
Technological advancement is imperative in learning processes and in human education. Using computers in training of learners help to reduce the workload of teachers. A close study reveals that tiring and long interactive sessions between instructors and learners reduce the concentration of a student. Additionally, instructors tend to easily get bored when they realize that there is no concentration and active participation from learners in class discussions.
Such events are coupled with repeated class activities that often generate boredom and can result in poor performance amongst those studying (The Computer and Education 117). Per see, using computers can help reduce boredom and increase level of participation by learners in class activities. Incorporating computers in education process also gives learners an exclusive opportunity to explore different learning materials and retrieve vital information that an instructor would have provided.
The use of internet as a resource material also enhances learning process and plays a great role in reducing classroom congestion that would be observed in libraries. Alternatively, using the internet reduces management costs especially the costs incurred when purchasing learning materials including periodicals and books (Pylyshyn, Zenon, and Liam 123).
If people were to concentrate on the strength of using computers to enhance education, the answer to the asked question would always be ‘Yes’. Even so, a shift can occur after taking a very close examination of weaknesses of exposing students to computers and to different internet services as presented by researchers.
Despite the fact that introduction of computers in human history have come with many advantages, there are disagreements on the impact of using computers especially when it comes to standards of living and societal norms (Sambath, Sabo, and Egui 211). To other people, technological changes have come with cultural erosion and the illiterate group across the globe has highly associated the use of computers with western culture.
The society has to some extent has not understood fully the importance of using computers and to convince it is an uphill task. The use of computers in connection to the drawback is seen as one of the factors that makes education expensive. In reality, if everyone was to purchase and install computers and related devices, it would be unmanageable and costly. Therefore, the costs involved are some of the challenges that make education by computer inapplicable.
What’s more, introducing teens to the devices may not provide the expected results (Sambath, Sabo, and Egui 204). The fact that the systems are addictive is indisputable. The use of internet also comes with challenges especially with social sites. Many youths focus more on social sites updating their statuses on Twitter and Face-book if not making comments and unlimited communications to relatives and friends.
If the group could get access to unlimited computer use, the consequences would also be evident. Using computer systems entirely also need proper and quality training to ensure learners are under regular checks and this, calls for an instructor. Based on the cons, one can shift his or her focus to using instructors to provide education as opposed to advocating for using computers for the same purpose.
Whereas technological advancement and change does more good than harm, it is imperative to note that learning is a very crucial process. It requires learners to have constant and direct interaction with their instructors. The major purpose of education is to ensure permanent and good changes in development of reasoning levels and in a person’s life (The Computer and Education 117).
Character transformation also goes beyond entertainment through thorough focus on education by the learner. It would also be unrealistic to introduce computer usage to a student at an early state. However, incorporating an instructor to computer learning process would provide high quality learning amongst the learners.
